Xombi #0
Writer: John Rozum
Penciling: Denys Cowan
Ink: Jimmy Palmiotti

Allison’s been writing about Xombi, so I figured now was a good time to go dig up Xombi #0, the beginning book to the series. Two things came to mind while reading this issue. The first is Xombi’s power.

Let’s consider being given the ability to use everything you ever consume. Talk about being energy efficient! He also isn’t able to get intoxicated from drinking alcohol, which got me thinking. Does this mean he can basically eat or drink anything (even those that are harmful) and won’t get the bad effects. He could totally bank on dumpster diving and would never need to worry about what he eats. As long as it has substance, he’s in good shapes. I mean, the guy’s a human landfill for goodness sake! We talk about all the ways we can become energy efficient. Just feed all of the shit in the world to this guy, and he’ll put it to growing a new arm or something. There you go — carbon free.

My next question raised is a completely different topic.

Hellblazer #6: Ghosts In The Machine
Writer: Jamie Delano
Artist: John Ridgeway

For once in the longest time I’m actually doing my job posting. Don’t hold your breath though, you know how this is a fleeting excitement.  Anywho this episode decides to delve into things I hate and pet peeves. The whole consciousness in the computer thing only works if its presented in a completely different way than this that actually has scientific backing. Having John’s friend catapult himself into ’silicon-space’ by turning his body into pixels was not the way to go. But hey, I’m someone who shuddered at the entire plot line for Live Free or Die Hard (although I still loved it), so this is understandable that the time would come.  (more…)

Hellblazer #6: Extreme Prejudice
Writer: Jamie Delano
Artist: John Ridgeway

Although this is more of a gimmic comic than anything, I found it more enjoyable after seeing its compadre in the future, Green Street Hooligans. If you ever thought to yourself, “Hey, I’d really like to see Frodo get the crap kicked out of him over futbol”, that movie is a must see. If you are a normal rational person and don’t want to see a crappy fake badass movie, it is not for you. But both the comic and the premise of that movie share a common bond, much like the bond of the three (four?) headed Neo-Nazi demon. (more…)

Ren & Stimpy have always and will always be some of my favorite cartoon characters. I remember being about 8 or so and my dad had me on the weekends (divorce, isn’t it great?) and he would plant me in front of the TV on Saturday mornings with a bowl of cereal and my good friends Ren and Stimpy.

Eventually I’d be cracking up at their insane antics involving everything from hairy nipples to hanging out on other planets. What’s weird is when you love something like Ren and Stimpy so much as a kid and then watch it when you’re an adult, it gives you a new appreciation for the cartoon. It’s weird because I realize that Ren and Stimpy is extremely vulgar. I mean, it’s not like Beavis and Butthead, but it’s not much better. Ren and Stimpy were purveyors of sick and wrong children’s TV and what the hell is better than that? I mean, I turned out just fine…

Today, I continue the perplexing and odd story of Xombi. So far, issue 2 has shed little light on this already enigmatic story. We were left last week with Dr. David Kim being shot by a weird looking mummy alien. Then his hot assistant saved him by using nanotechnology which used “raw matter” to heal or save someone physically. Unfortunately, adorable assistant girl was used for “raw matter” by the nanomachines and Dr. Kim wakes up with part of her slumped to the floor, most of her torso eaten away, ribs exposed. (more…)

A new take on Frankenstein thrown together by Allison

Frankenstein is pretty awesome. I think most people who are fans of monsters would agree with me when I say that Frankenstein, the one cultivated over the years through movies and books, is just an all-around cool monster. But like any horror character that’s been in our literary consciousness for quite some time, the Frankenstein plot-line has been played to death. However, I found a story new to me that’s all about rewriting Frankenstein. The name of the comic? Simply, FRANK. (more…)

Uncanny Origins #2: Quicksilver
Writer: Glenn Herdling
Pencils: Dave Hoover
Ink: Bill Anderson

Quicksilver has always been my favorite evil mutant. Something about being so freaking fast always got to me. I used to run track way back when and think maybe that had something to do with it. Regardless of my liking him, I never knew his origin story. Now I do.

Hellblazer #5: When Johnny Comes Marching Home
Writer: Jamie Delano
Artist: John Ridgeway

Yep, I’m still on this series and milking it for all it’s worth.  I am yearning a bit more for some God/Devil interaction and perhaps some more demon-type battles. I suppose resurrections of old war heroes will have to do.  Constantine as usual barely influences the situation while smoking/getting drunk, but things tend to work out alright. It’s really a good thing that hes watching out for mankind you know.  The horrors of the Vietnam (and any war really) is quite apparent in the point the author is trying to make. (more…)

Last Spider-man Post . . . for awhile. thrown together by Dalton

This is the last time I will write about this book. I promise. The only problem is that I can’t stop reading it, and I never have enough time to read more than one issue within it. So I take that back because I have one more issue. But who knows, I may just read it without telling you and post about something new. I’m convinced that Brian Bendes is simply that good of an author.

Watch out for…..IT! thrown together by Allison

After yesterday’s internet mishap, I feel enormously obliged to share with everyone the kick ass comic I read for today.

Today’s read is IT!: The Terror from Beyond Space, No. 1 and I have to say it was pretty rockin’. The story is about the first manned mission to Mars that goes wrong when the ship carrying astronauts ends up crashing upon entry. Of course, the people aboard are like, “Dude, let’s go check stuff out anyway and see what’s out here on Mars!” That’s not a real quote, but you get the idea. (more…)
