Xombi. Zombie. Same thing. I know, I know…I always read about zombies. I can’t help it. And when I bought this comic, I wasn’t even sure if it would be a traditional zombie theme and so far, the first issue of the series is pretty interesting.
The reader is introduced to a doctor dabbling in nanotechnology. The doctor, who’s named David, hires a hot new assistant that he’s got a thing for, despite the fact that he has a fiancée. Anyways, the doctor dude is visited by very strange beings which I can only describe as mummy-aliens. They kind look like how I imaging the alien from the Aliens movies would look if it was dressed up like a mummy for Halloween. For an example, check out my scanned pic above of the front page of the comic. The eerie little mummy-aliens are right on the middle of the top. I don’t know how else to describe them and they creep me out a bit.
What’s even weirder is that the mummy-aliens kind of come out of nowhere with no explanation making them that much creepier. An unassuming security guard where David works sees a ton of tiny men (literally, tiny little people) who open up a door and the 8-foot mummy-alien walks through the door with a cool gun and blasts the security guard. Eventually David sees the mummy-aliens who were looking for “discs” and then they blast David. His hot little assistant finds him and tries to save him by pumping nanomachines into David’s bloodstream. A caption on the page explains that the nanomachines are capable of rebuilding cells (ie David’s wound and health). But the nanomachines can only rebuild when there is ample amount of “raw material” near the wound from which the machines steal material and use it to rebuild David.
The funny part is that his hot assistant is cradling him as he dies. So after exactly 17 minutes, David wakes up feeling completely better with no sign of a wound having been on him at all. Unfortunately, the ample raw material that the nanomachines used to rebuild David was taken out of the closest raw material near the wound while it was being repaired. That just happened to be hot little assistant girl who is now slouched in a corner with about 2/3rds or her flesh missing.
O and the very beginning of the comic starts with a bunch of talking toads let loose in a hospital. They’re apparently called “nomatoads” and a strange batch of people are looking at the toads. One of the people is dressed like a nun and is call Nun of the Above, and a girl dressed like a catholic school girl and she’s called Catholic Girl. It’s just really weird. The toads were sent by “ancients” who are not explained and the nun tells them just to listen to the toads to find out who sent the toads there via a spell. Again, it’s just bizarre.
The story is pretty sweet though. I was intrigued to say the least and since I have the 2nd issue, I’ll be covering more of the story next weekend. As for now, I’m not really sure what to say about the story since I have no real idea what’s going on.

I’ll go with you and say that I am pretty clueless as well as to what exactly I’m supposed to think about this. It’s the same way I view Saw 5. I’m almost positive that that trilogy will never end. It’ll be like the Jason movies when it’s all done because there will be 14 of them.
