Ah the overly religious types always mess things up in the woods. I don’t care what the author meant, but this looks like a thinly veiled attack at Mormons and their loads of wives. Granted the Mormons, while not the most normal of sorts, dont strangle their 13 year old wives in front of a satanic portal. The usual ass kicking girl saves the day, how cliche these days. This is really a shame because most of the ass kicking girls in movies arn’t that memorable and are usually subjected to poor scripts and terrible plotlines.
Anywho, jolting back to the Mormons, they definitely have some rediculous beliefs, and I would refer everyone to the appropriate South Park episode. I suppose I could go on about that, but I have suddenly become disinterested in the whole topic as well.
But let’s go back to heros and heroines, specifically the memorable ones. It seems like the ones in Judy Bloom books and Angela Lansbury are the only two that have really stood the test of time. Yeah there are some comic book folks, but they are superheros and therefore autmatically are…heros. Meanwhile we have the ever lovable James Bond, and Batman. I’m calling out female everyday heros to come out of the woodwork and present themselves. They have to stand up to these macho man types. While guys are pretty good at being suave, they lack in some beauty and class. Actually, I’d also like there to be an ugly female hero, Female beauty is a borderline superpower anyway.
And now, like the town drunk, I’ll just stagger away and everyone will go back about their buisness.

men don’t really want to see a strong woman b/c it would just make them feel insecure about…their members. jk. either way, i think there is a lack of female heroines b/c everything is still pretty phalocentric (and no i didn’t make that word up). i’ve taken a few womenism classes and i can say that even language is set up to be male-oriented. i’m not bitching about what my husband deems hallucinatory as far as the world being male-centered. but the fact is, it is. i still make .75 cents to every male dollar and whatever. it is what it is. but i’m just saying i think as soon as a strong female voice is heard (sarah palin as an example, tho i don’t necessarily support her) men chime in trying to knock her down or at least show that she’s “just a woman”. i dunno, the issue goes beyond your need for a strong female character i suppose. it goes back to the heart of feminism and woman’s cry to be heard and taken seriously. i think we’ve come very far in the last few decades but there’s still a ways to go…
Comment by allison hanks 10.13.08 @ 5:24 pmo and using the election as an example, i think it scares men that if something happens to decrepit old mccain, a woman would then be running the country. run for the hills! does that mean people will then decide to vote for obama b/c they’d rather make sure only men could be running the country? only time will tell…
Comment by allison hanks 10.13.08 @ 5:27 pmI don’t know. There was a pretty heavy support for Clinton on the Democrat side. She just had the unfortunate luck of running against a guy with a ridiculously passionate following in Obama. I really don’t want to get into politics, but it seems that it’s more people don’t want Palin running their country than a woman. Even NOW doesn’t favor Palin.
Comment by Dalton 10.13.08 @ 11:08 pmI’ll vote for someone who gets Wonder Woman as their running partner.
Comment by Guff28 10.14.08 @ 12:32 ami just don’t think men REALLY want a woman running things but hell, NO politician is a hero in my opinion.
Comment by allison hanks 10.14.08 @ 12:29 pmo and when i say “men” i mean a vast majority, not the enlightened minority.
Comment by allison hanks 10.14.08 @ 12:30 pmNOW definitely doesn’t favor Palin b/c she’s pro-life so that makes sense.
