As I prepare for my upcoming nuptials which are less than a week away, I’m having a really hard time staying focused. Elvis and Vegas are the only things on my mind right now! So don’t be shocked when you don’t get your daily dose of Allison next week as I’ll be out of commission.

Still, I have my duty to report to you the daily unflappings that occur when you delve into the visceral world of comics.

Today I chose to read Cyberspace 3000. It’s a comic that’s…how do I put this lightly? Um, it’s kind of lame? No, I mean, it’s not terrible. I managed to get through the whole thing and as I mentioned I’m having trouble staying focused so that’s at least something, right?

This comic has drawings that are not exactly as the cover implies. They’re rather bland and just not the caliber I would expect from the Marvel franchise. The story line is actually pretty interesting but the dialog leaves something to be desired. The language tries to imitate what someone might say in the year 3000. I dunno bout you but I certainly have no idea what they’d say in that century. I doubt that when their really cool space ship is under attack that they’re going to say “Cruk!” instead of fuck. I could always be wrong though.

Anyways, the story is kinda cool. There’s this big cool space ship that gets attacked by some crazy blob or something and no one can figure out what it is. Part of the ship is ripped apart (along with all of its inhabitants in that section of the ship) and what’s left is a gaping hole that is extremely reminiscent of the movie Event Horizon. I’m pretty sure this comic was written well before that movie was made but still, it reminded me of it.

There’s a race living on the ship in the comic that decides to go and check out the weird blob and they look like praying mantises. They stick they’re insectile arms into the blob and make weird noises. There’s part in Even Horizon where the strange sphere that powers the ship turns into a black blob and it’s pretty freaky. If you remember the movie, the ship was made with the purpose of traveling the furthest reaches of space but disappears just outside of our own solar system. When it returns, it turns out the ship actually ventured into Hell and brought part of it back.

Anyways, this comic reminded me of that because of the creepy blob left behind after the attack. Then, at the end of the story this huge “thing” called Galactus appeared and simply said “I hunger…” That’s fairly creepy. So even though I can’t say this is my favorite comic for pictures or dialog, I’m intrigued enough to try and find the second issue.

So for our question of the day: If you could live in the year 3000, would you? I don’t think I would. I’m not sure how different it would be from today. I’m sure that some things would definitely have advanced beyond belief by that time but that just seems scary to me. I hope it’s more like Futurama where everything is still kind of the same but there’s just a bunch of aliens running things. Still, I think if anything, I’d go back and live in the 1950′s so that I could be a cool kat.

To answer this bluntly, no. Only instead of aliens it would be computers and robots running things. But I think in one thousand years it won’t be that different from today. Wait a second. What the hell do I care? I’ll be dead! So if you went back to live in the 50′s, would it be black and white like Pleasantville? Fire! Fire! Cat?

if it was in black and white, i wouldn’t complain! i’d prolly be the weird girl that makes everything turn to color tho.
