Unlikely that you should like a girl too much…. thrown together by Allison

Unlikely
Written and drawn by: Jeffrey Brown
I’ve diverged a bit this week from my normal zombie/horror comics to attack a more “normal” graphic novel. This one is a novel called Unlikely. And although it wasn’t a bad book, it’s unlikely that I could recommend it to everyone. Sorry for the lame pun. It’s a great story but it’s mostly just a lot of talking and feelings. So don’t worry, I’ll get back to the zombies tomorrow.
The story is about Jeff. He meets a girl named Allisyn. Inevitably and rather predictably, they fall in love and she falls quickly out of love. The two have a hard time with sex; it seems as though they can never get it right even though they’re both in their mid-20′s. It’s not like they’re teens who have no clue. But yet that seems to be a harbinger for things to come in their relationship.
I’m not sure exactly how long this relationship lasts, it’s unclear in the story. I’m guessing it’s under one year. But it takes seemingly forever for them to just get to the sex part so I think there’s maybe a build up there that leads to the downfall of their sex life. But really, how important is sex? I’m not saying it’s not important because everyone knows it is. But to what degree? The two characters kinda act like sex is the end-all be-all of really loving each other. They clearly have other things in common (a great deal actually) and yet the sex, or lack thereof, is something they continually get hung up on.
Aside from the sex thing, it seems like Jeff is just too naive. He’s a 24 year-old virgin when he meets Allisyn and she ends up being his first. He’s kind of a dork and a little too obsessed with Allisyn. Note to guys out there, girls are bitches. If they know that you like them more than they like you, it’ll never work. I’m a chick so I feel like I have the right to say what I’m saying here. Girls are bitches. We totally are and most of the time, we’re completely aware that we’re being bitches.
What I’m getting at here is that Allisyn realizes at some point that although the attraction started off as mutual, eventually she discovers Jeff is far more into her than she is into him. This is dangerous. I don’t know why but for some reason, girls will realize things like this and then rip a guy’s heart out. Almost purely for the sport of it.
When I was 15, I dated this guy for a year. He wasn’t that attractive and I wasn’t that into him, but he was nice and I knew that he liked me; A LOT (by the way I was 15 so sex wasn’t even in the picture). Finally I went on summer vacation to New York City to see my dad and when I came back, I realized he was totally in love with me even though I hadn’t really thought about him during the whole vacation.
I should’ve broken up with him well before summer even started, but I liked having someone who thought of me like a goddess, like I was untouchable in some way. The day I broke up with him, I went to his house and told him on his driveway that I didn’t want to date him anymore. I’ll never forget how he hung his head and cried as he walked away from me. I felt horrible, unlike some girls in this situation. I guess I’m trying to explain why girls have a tendency to be assholes. Guys, please don’t act too into her, or you’ll end up like Jeff and my ex-boyfriend. Feelings need to be mutual, not one-sided or lopsided. Once you give a girl the power of knowing how much you like her, you’re almost asking her to get a big head and ditch you. Again, I’m not sure why girls are like this, and not every girl is this way. But I know from experience that once your love goes into obsession, it’s a dangerous area to tread.

It’s NOT unlikely that the author had that whole “obsessing over a girl and her not being into him as much thing” happen to him. His name is Jeffrey. The character’s name is Jeff. Coincidence?
