Sadly, Nas was right, no idea is original these days, and its mostly how you present things that matters. Too many of these stories want you to know the whole background and why things are going on right from the bat. I want to figure that out on my own, I don’t need a cut and dry force of good who tries to help and a force of evil who lives underground with spiders. Give me some grey motives, some randomness. Naming your chatecters after Greek heros that were famous for shape shifting images and crap is not the way to get things done. Granted, the Prince of Persia series never held back letting you know that things were related to time. We had the Isle of Time, kingdom of Time, Prince of Time. We got the idea. After struggling through it, this did remind me of another great story involving a guy named Daedalus.
If anyone hasn’t played a videogame for storyline, you are totally missing out, because thats mostly why I play. I want to know why I’m sniping some guy in the head from a half mile out. There must be some motive behind it. Deus Ex was a great example of this, it’s an old game, look it up, pick it up (maybe 10 bucks). Sure there is the usaul sneaking and shooting. but the whole story is something ive played it for time and time again. It isn’t a completely original storyline, but being a game it gets people engaged and makes it their story so to speak. It’s too bad you can’t just have a memory erase after reading a really good story or playing a great game so you can relive the exictement like new every time. If I was Bill Murray in Groundhog’s day I would just read a few good stories and play a few choice games everyday. I’d do that for eternity no sweat.
And speaking of forgetting games, I recently started up Final Fantasy X again for the story, mostly because I forgot a lot of it. Sure I know how it ends, but the journey is hazy, and thats the meat of it anyway. Back to New-Gen, it failed to deliver on motive as well, sure one guy is good and one is evil, but we need some motives, give me a background on why they are like that and then maybe I will buy into your nano thingers. Nano Thingers by the way, should be a snack cake.
